The City Council on Thursday approved a $55,000 settlement for the family of a mentally ill man who was beaten by an Austin police officer.

A Southeast Austin woman endured hours of sexual and physical assaults that spanned two cities, according to police, and a man has now been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
